GREAT NEWS! CUBA EXTENDES THE DURATION OF THE PASSPORT TO 10 YEARS AND SAYS GOODBYE TO EXTENSION

Great news has arrived from Cuba! Ernesto Soberón, the prominent Cuban official and General Director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), has given us a wonderful surprise. In an exciting message on Twitter, he confirmed on May 16 that the government has made the courageous decision to eliminate the tedious extension every two years of the Cuban passport, and not only that! They have also extended its validity to ten years.

Soberón expressed: "As part of the continuous strengthening of #Cuba's ties with its nationals abroad, it has been decided to adopt the following measures, which will enter into force on 07/01/2023." His words convey a deep connection to the Cuban people and his desire to enhance their experience abroad.

The diplomat filled us with joy by announcing that passports will now be valid for 10 years for those over 16 years of age, and for five years for minors. This means greater comfort and freedom for Cuban travelers! But that's not all, they also eliminated the annoying extension that forced compatriots to pay an extra every two years to maintain the validity of their beloved travel document.

This decision demonstrates the genuine concern of the Cuban government for its people and its commitment to the well-being of its citizens. It is a great step forward in strengthening the ties between Cuba and its diaspora, and it fills us with hope for a future full of opportunities and greater access to international mobility.

As of July, the cost of passports at consulates will be reduced, establishing a fee of only 180 USD/Euros for those over 16 years of age and 140 USD/Euros for minors. A significant reduction that alleviates the financial burden of our compatriots and facilitates their international mobility!

We are also excited to know that the length of stay in Cuba will be equalized both for Cubans residing abroad and for their foreign relatives, including spouses and children.
