Ernesto Soberón, the prominent Cuban official and General Director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), has given us a wonderful surprise. In an exciting message on Twitter, he confirmed on May 16 that the government has made the courageous decision to eliminate the tedious extension every two years of the Cuban passport, and not only that! They have also extended its validity to ten years. Soberón expressed: “As part of the continuous strengthening of #Cuba’s ties with its nationals abroad, it has been decided to adopt the following measures, which will enter into force on 07/01/2023.” His words convey a deep connection to the Cuban people and his desire to enhance their experience abroad. The diplomat filled us with joy by announcing that passports will now be valid for 10 years for those over 16 years of age, and for five years for minors.
